Allergy Clinical Trials and Studies Provide New Treatment Options for Allergy Sufferers

Allergies are very common: over 50 million people in the United States live with some type of allergy. Incidences of allergies in Westernized countries are on the rise, and allergy researchers are looking for the reasons for this increase.

Causes of Allergies

Allergies occur when the body's immune system mistakes normally harmless substances as threats. Foods, dust, and pet dander may all be causes of allergies, along with almost any other substance imaginable. Other causes of allergies include bee stings and other insect bites, which naturally activate the immune system to a limited extent. If the person stung is allergic to such bites, the immune system overreacts to the threat.
